The grieving process is long and complicated. Everyone deals with pain and loss differently. You may never stop missing the person that you’ve lost, but you will learn how to think of them with happiness rather than sadness. Many teens find it helpful to talk to someone—either someone informally, like a friend, or formally, like a counsellor—and to express their grief through art, writing or music.

It’s okay to feel sad and to miss your pet. Pets are extremely important members of the family. When a pet dies, it often feels like losing a human member of the family. Allow yourself to go through the steps of grief.
